Baked Ziti

1 lb. ziti pasta, dry

1 onion, chopped

1 lb. ground beef, extra lean, shredded

4 1/2 c. spaghetti sauce (3-15 oz. cans)

4 slices of provolone cheese

1 1/2 c. sour cream, fat free

1 1/2 c. mozzarella cheese, shredded fat free

2 T. parmesan cheese, grated

cooking spray


Preheated oven to 350 degrees.  Boil a large pot of water.  Add ziti pasta, and cook until al dente, about 8 minutes; drain.  In a large skillet, brown onion and ground beef.  Drain.  Add spaghetti sauce and simmer 15 minutes. Spray a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray.  Layer as follows: 1/2 of the ziti, provolone cheese, fat free sour cream, 1/2 sauce mixture, remaining ziti, mozzarella cheese and remaining sauce mixture.  Top with grated parmesan cheese. Bake for 30 minutes in preheated oven, or until cheese are melted.

*Elbow macaroni could be used in place of ziti pasta.

Makes 12-1 c. servings.
