Ingredients

  • Cooking spray
  • 2 ¼ c Flour
  • 1 ¼ c Flour, whole wheat
  • 2 T Sugar
  • 1 T Baking powder
  • ½ t Salt
  • 1 ½ c Cheddar cheese, reduced fat, shredded
  • ¼ c Basil, dried or ⅔ c fresh, minced
  • 1¼ c + 2T Half and half, fat free, divided
  • 1 Egg, beaten
  • Flour for kneading

Directions

  1. HEAT oven to 450°F. SPRAY a baking sheet with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, MIX flours, sugar, baking powder and salt.
  3. ADD shredded cheese and basil. STIR to combine.
  4. In a small bowl, MIX 1 ¼ c fat free half and half and egg. ADD this to the flour mixture and STIR until moist.
  5. TURN out onto a well-floured surface and KNEAD 10-12 times.
  6. DIVIDE dough in half into two balls. Gently ROLL each into a 6-inch circle and PLACE on a baking sheet.
  7. CUT each circle into 8 wedges, making 16 scones. BRUSH with 2 T fat free half and half.
  8. BAKE for 18-22 minutes or until golden brown.
